Guardian Self Storage Fights Hunger in the Hudson Valley

On April 11, 2013, Guardian Self Storage announced its plans to combat the recent food shortages Dutchess Outreach’s food pantry is currently experiencing. Over the past several days, Guardian Self Storage staff members have personally donated nearly 100 pounds of food and are working with local supermarkets to coordinate additional donations. Guardian Self Storage has made a $250 contribution to help restock the food pantry and the company will be holding a food drive next month.

In 2012, Dutchess Outreach’s Beverly Closs Food Pantry served 84,582 meals for 4,371 people, including 1,610 children. The number of meals served has increased dramatically in recent years, serving 9,315 more meals in 2012 than the previous year.

“One in six Americans are food insecure and the percentage becomes significantly higher among children,” said Judy Motter, General Manager of Guardian Self Storage. “Unfortunately, demand has out paced the supplies being donated to food pantries in recent years. We want to help reverse this trend and encourage any individuals and businesses to give what they can.”
