Mark- Poughkeepsie Guardian Self Storage and Office Park, 3 Neptune Road Route 9 behind Red Lobster.
What is your favorite part about working at Guardian Self Storage?
Christine- I like the change of scenery, offices and customers each day. This makes my job more favorable than others might think.
Mark- Having a lot diversity in my jobs. No two days are alike.
What is your favorite part about working together?
Christine- My favorite part working with my husband is being able to share similar days in and out’s. Mark makes my days easy with his expertise in company maintenance if and when I have an issue arise. Yes Mark, what is your favorite part?
Mark- It’s nice having Christine to work alongside with. I depend on her for many things and bounce ideas off her which helps me with my day.
In your opinion, what sets Guardian apart from all of the other self-storage companies out there?
BOTH- One word answer: Integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
Guardian Self Storage is a family owned business; what values do you think Guardian shares with so many families out there?
BOTH- We offer a safe and honest place to put your belongings as well as top ranked customer service. Families want this and they know from meeting us that we give them confidence that we are going to take care of possessions. We take the stress out of very stressful times for most.
What are some of the most interesting things you’ve seen stored?
Christine- House plants and loved ones ashes.
Mark- Body Parts but in mannequin form. I saw fully dressed mannequins fitted with suits standing in a unit. Kind of creepy.
At the location(s) you work at, what are the types of units that people rent the most?
Christine- Based on their personal preference, I will rent temperature control or traditional. I rent all sizes.
Mark- I deal with all Temperature control units from a 4×4 to 10×10 and office suites for existing to starter companies. Will rent based on their needs.
Tell us more about you; what are some of your favorite things to do together outside of work?
BOTH- We both love to hike and explore the beautiful Hudson Valley. We love seeing and sharing these hidden jewels for the first time together. We have two daughters Lauren and Kyra ages 20 and 17 that we invite to come along and enjoy with us. We try to be with our families as much as possible.
What type of advice would you give someone who has never stored anything before and is trying to decide what type of unit to use and how to pack their unit?
Christine- take advantage of 10-12 foot height ceilings offered. That could save you money in square footage cost if you utilize the cubic feet.
Mark- Pack less useful items in the back and useful things in the front of the unit. Always go with one size larger unit then actually needed to give you moving room inside the unit.
Do either of you have a favorite customer?
Christine- I travel so it’s difficult to pin point a favorite. I do have a customer I like to catch up with when I see him in our Saugerties location.
Mark- I like my RX Reps and my Suite tenants. I work very closely with them making sure their businesses are running strong.
What is the longest you have ever worked with a customer before getting them into a storage unit?
Christine- I’ve worked with one customer of 1 year. Some people it takes that long to get all ducks in a row. I assure them we are here for them when they are ready regardless how long it takes.
Mark- 5-6 months
What has been your most heartfelt experience at Guardian Self Storage?
Christine- I have many heartfelt experiences over the years both personally and professionally. To sum it up, we work for a company that truly cares about each of us. We are a family and take care of each other as if. We are always appreciated for our hard work and efforts. It’s a nice feeling to wake up every morning and go to work knowing you have a team all working together as one. To me, there’s nothing more heartfelt and sincere than that.
Mark- I like being a part of the community outreach we take part in and meeting the people that we join in our efforts with such as our annual Coat Drive. It’s nice to be able give back.
